Another one for the library...

Yet another song filed away under the heading "I like this but I don't know why I like this"

Its another Jim Steinman story song and his lyrics are just perfectly balanced, each word crafted and sculpted into place in the verse, not one extraneous word, nothing out of place, the story told in an absolute minimum of effort but with the passion and tragedy squeezed out of every vein in it.

"She used her body just like a bandage,
she used my body just like a wound"

Wonderful stuff

Best played loud - LOUD

I like

"And when the sun descended and the night arose
I heard my father cursing everyone he knows
He was dangerous and drunk and defeated
And corroded by failure and envy and hate"

Godamn that's ridiculously harsh. Needlessly brutal, even. I agree, fantastic stuff ;)

"Ill hear that ugly coarse and violent voice
And then he grabs me from behind and then he pulls me back"

You could only write those words from experience Mr Steinman, and somehow when someone else other than Meatloaf sings the words they don't make the same impact - I'm not a big Meatloaf fan but still...
